We are thrilled to share some exciting updates on our upcoming project, the Surgical Outreach Program, set to take place in OSPA Farmer’s Hospital in Ormoc City, Philippines, on January 29 to 31, 2024.
As a quick recap, last February 27, 2023, we had the pleasure of meeting with the Medical Director of OSPA Farmer’s Hospital, Dr. Sandra Fiel-Chong, who happens to be an esteemed alumna of our beloved Alma Mater. Alongside Dr. Fiel-Chong, other staff members and doctors from the hospital joined us for an Ocular Visit to discuss the details of our project.

During this insightful meeting, we had the opportunity to tour the facility and gain a better understanding of the needs and challenges they face on a day-to-day basis. The hospital staff warmly welcomed us and expressed their enthusiasm for collaborating with our Class of 1997 in this noble endeavor.
With the initial groundwork set, Sina97ala members have been hard at work preparing for this meaningful Surgical Outreach Program. Here are some key updates:
1️⃣ Planning and Organization: Our dedicated team has been diligently organizing the logistics of the program, including the scheduling of surgeries, arranging accommodations for the participating medical professionals, and ensuring the necessary equipment and supplies are readily available.
2️⃣ Fundraising: To support the success of this initiative, we have launched a fundraising campaign to gather the resources needed to make a significant impact. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who lack access to vital surgical procedures.
3️⃣ Volunteer Recruitment: We encourage all interested members of the UERM Medicine Class of 1997 and fellow alumni to join us in this noble cause. Your expertise and commitment can contribute greatly to the success of the Surgical Outreach Program. Stay tuned for further details on how to get involved!

As we move forward, we anticipate further collaborations with OSPA Farmer’s Hospital, local organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of our Surgical Outreach Program. The well-being and health of the community in Ormoc City are at the forefront of our efforts, and we are grateful for all the support we have received thus far.
Stay tuned for future updates through our newsletter, which will provide more information about the progress of our project, upcoming events, and opportunities for involvement. If you have any questions or would like to contribute in any way, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our organizing committee.

Together, let’s continue making a positive impact on the lives of others and uphold the UERM legacy of compassionate service.
